Hard boiled eggs are an occasional staple around here. By that I mean, we love them as snacks, lunch staples, topping our salads with them, turning them into egg salad sandwiches, and making deviled eggs by the dozens. Their versatility puts them on the list as one of our favorite frugal pantry staples!
But I don’t like to hard boil them. Running after three kids makes it hard to find time to carve out of the brief time I am home to boil eggs. And by the time I remember that I have some time to hard boil them, I don’t have enough time to baby sit the stove and make sure they don’t boil too long!
By the way, most kitchen timers don’t work for this gal. More often than not, I forget to set the kitchen timer before I’m off dealing with the next task at hand.
But we really do love our hard boiled eggs here. When I found out I could make them in the instant pot, life just seemed to get a little bit better! Yes… I am that girl that didn’t originally want an Instant Pot. But since I got one as a gift last Christmas, I don’t know why it took me so long to get one! Not only are hard boiled eggs cooked super fast in it, but they are so much easier to peel! No more fighting your eggs just to get the shells off!!
Since learning how to make them in our Instant Pot, they’re no longer an occasional snack that we have. They are a staple to have on hand constantly in our fridge, and I can’t seem to make them fast enough! There are always worse things to snack on though, right? Trust me, this is a super simple process, and you’ll have hard boiled eggs in no time at all!
What You’ll Need:
- Eggs
- Water
- Ice
- Large Bowl
- Tongs
Directions
- Put the rack in your instant pot liner. Pour in 1 cup water. Gently place eggs on top of the rack. {I can fit about 10 eggs on the rack for my 6qt Instant Pot, but if you need more you can gently stack more eggs on top.}
- Put the lid on. Make sure the lid is set to sealing, not venting.
- Set the Instant Pot for the Egg setting. I have the Instant Pot Ultra*, and it comes with this setting. But if yours doesn’t: use the manual setting, set the pressure to High, and the timer to 5 minutes. That’s all the egg setting is on my Instant Pot.
- Meanwhile, in a large bowl, create an ice bath.
- After the cook time is done, let the pressure drop naturally for 5 minutes. My Instant Pot comes with a “keep warm” setting that counts up how long it’s been keeping warm. When it reads 5 minutes, I quick vent the pressure.
- Carefully open the Instant Pot, and use tongs to remove the eggs, and place them in the ice bath. Let them sit here for 5 minutes.
- After the eggs are done cooling, peel them and store them in a Ziploc bag in the fridge, or use them in your favorite recipes!
