Description
When I graduated from grad school, I made the hard transition from working part-time to being a stay-at-home mom of three under 6. Since I was home most of the time, I decided to take over the finances and take our debt-free journey seriously – beyond the minimum payments we were making.
Through the years there has been a lot of trial and error, and even more budgeting systems, workbooks, and planners. They each fit a small need, but none of them fit all our needs to help meet our long-term financial goals.
I needed something that showed me where our current paycheck was going, and whether we were still within our budget categories for groceries. I needed something that showed me how we were progressing towards our overall savings goals, and when our next non-monthly expense – like our vision exams or quarterly utility bill – was coming up. I needed something that helped me keep track of all our expense categories over the year, as well as our long-term financial goals. Most of all, I needed a review and accountability system each month.
That’s how this planner came to be.
The most important steps in your finances are to put it into writing, and for it to function for you and your unique budgeting needs.
